The #1 SECRET to Discount Shopping Success!

Ok so I know what you’re thinking…

Discount shopping?  Too many racks, too much to browse through, too congested, too many items….

While I completely understand your reservations, I have found that most people’s discount shopping problems can be solved with one simple trick…planning!  If you know WHAT to look for then the chaos of the store disappears.  I only go to specific sections because I know EXACTLY what I’m looking for.  I know what’s worth my time, what they always carry, what’s easy to locate, and now you will TOO!

Follow this guide so you know which bargains to hunt for.  Not only will this help save you time, it will also help your wallet!  My typical discount store haul, which includes miscellaneous items, clothing, gifts, and shoes, is less than $75!

So here’s the plan –

Miscellaneous Must-haves:  Discount stores can be a great place to stock up on beauty products, gifts, books, and toys for the kiddos.

  1. Beauty – dry shampoo, false eyelashes, lotions, and hairbrushes
  2. Baby necessities: Burp cloths and swaddle blankets (they even carry Aden & Anais for $5 – $10 less than the normal price), sippy cups, books, and games (including Melissa & Doug toys and puzzles!)
  3. Stationary – planners, thank you cards, gift bags ($1.99), tissue paper, and wall art
A typical TJ Maxx miscellaneous haul: Avent sippy cups, Melissa & Doug play book, Sandra Boynton board book, false eyelashes, tanning lotion, Batiste dry shampoo, and my absolute all time FAVORITE planner (includes stickers). All for $36.00!

Now for my favorite part…CLOTHES!

Women’s  clothing– You want to keep your focus on tops & dresses.  Pants, shorts, and skirts are few and far between with atypical designers and fits.  Every now and then you can find a good pair of jeans but most of these items you would want to try on, and remember, we’re keeping things SIMPLE for time-saving purposes.

Confession: these are the only racks I actually take the time to search through.  Whether you’re looking for blouses, graphic tees, short sleeve shirts, sweaters, kimono cardigans, or long cardigans, there’s tonssss of options!  And in case you’ve got brand names in mind, just know that some brands at TJ Maxx and Marshalls are also found at Nordstrom!

This floral, cold-shoulder blouse was only $16.99! It’s from the juniors section; I recommend sizing up one when shopping in juniors.

Kids clothes

The best deals for girls clothing are on onesies, swimwear, dresses, pajamas and holiday attire.  The holiday items and dresses are usually on an end cap, very easy to locate.  The baby girls section has Carter’s brand clothes for about 30% off and Jessica Simpson brand running in the $12.99-$16.99 range per outfit.

Get beach ready! Jessica Simpson swimwear – long sleeve rashguard and matching bottoms, set for $12.99. Honest brand hat, SPF 50, for $4.99!

Boys clothes are ALWAYS slim pickings, but my favorite finds for the little guys are matching “active” sets, pajamas, socks, and Ralph Lauren dress shirts.  Believe it or not, ROSS has the biggest selection of active outfits, but you can find them at each discount store.

2 piece Nike set for $12.99!!

And what about…SHOES!?

MARSHALLS is the shoe MECCA of discount shopping.  I buy all of my children’s shoes there!  For the kiddos they have Nike sneakers for $24.99, dress shoes, and sandals (even Quicksilver and Roxy).  Another great store for tons of shoe options at a terrific price is Nordstrom Rack.

Baby Tom’s on CLEARANCE for $14!!!

Now that you know what to look for, my only other advice for you is this – if you like it, BUY it!  Whether you go back in one week, one day, or one hour, it won’t be there again so make it yours NOW!
